“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one he loves and chastens everyone he accepts as his son.“ Hebrews 12: 5–6
Do not let your time in the ditch stop your faith, bogging you down, stalling out your progress. As I said have before it’s a great time to reassess our life, strengthen our faith, learn from the choices we have made and pour a new foundation to move forward. It’s transformation time.
“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing my come from the Lord.“ Acts 3:19
There’s nothing like a clean conscience. We can’t be healed if we keep things concealed. Remember Jesus with the paralytic? Do you want to be healed? The more we unload those buried issues and sins, the more he refreshes us to start over. Finding our way back to God and the open road ahead means letting go of those things that are hindering us. God rarely put something new in our life until we let go of something old and broken, cleaning out the dirty storage room. Turning away from any destructive choices, seeking help through trusted, Christian friends and counselors or support groups is a great start. Repenting is turning away from what holds us back and turning towards God to find a new life that we can’t find anywhere else.
When we redirect, returning to him, we repent and make the changes needed, letting go of whatever has been done and said, no matter what that looks like. It doesn’t have to be some big dramatic sin, maybe it’s the ones we would consider small. Holding on to bitterness, hate, anger, and ill will towards someone that’s done something to us. Unforgiveness holds us back.
Let go of it. We could all use a time of refreshing, but we have to pave the way for him to make the change in us. We are able to make a decision to repent. What is it that we need to let go of? Ask him to reveal it.
God, thank you for forgiving me of all the mistakes I have made, big and small. It’s so refreshing to unload the burdens of those things, leaving them behind and giving them to you to heal. Help me to never repeat those mistakes, but rather to grow from their lessons and consequences. Bring new things into my life, helping me to release any old ways, sins or habits that hinder my progress. In Jesus Name, Amen
